Rikuzentakata City Community Hall Ground Breaking Ceremony
The Ground Breaking Ceremony of Rikuzentakata City Community Hall was held on December 24th in Rikuzentakata, Iwate Prefecture, one of the areas worst affected by the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami. Under the reconstruction project, the center is being built with about JPY700 million, about a half of the construction cost, raised by the Singapore Red Cross to aid earthquake and tsunami relief efforts. It is expected to become the center of the new town as a multi-purpose facility for the community. In times of emergency, it will also function as a disaster response center with heliport, emergency power generation equipment and stockpiling warehouse.
